BEAU RIVAGE TOURNEY

FIRST OF ALL, LET ME GIVE MAD THANKS TO KENNY "THE TRUCKER" MILAM FOR HAVING THE CONFIDENCE TO BACK ME IN THREE EVENTS AT THE BEAU. THANKS BIG FELLA. UNFORTUNATELY, I DID DIDDLEY SQUAT. I HAD ALMOST THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO ON BACK TO BACK DAYS AND PLAYED THEM DIFFERENT. DAY 1, AK suited IN THE BIG BLIND, 4 CALLERS, I RAISE 3X THE BIG 3 CALLERS, FLOP COMES A37 OFF, I HAVE 8500(SHORT STACK) LEFT, I SHOVE. 1folds, next player goes all in. I SAY SHIT DON'T TELL ME YOU HAVE 33? YEP I DO HE SAYS. HE HAS ME COVERED TURN, RIVER, COMES BLANK. I'M OUT. DAY 2 same thing, I GET AK suited in the big blind, 2callers, i have 11500, i raise $3500, call, call. flop comes A67, this time i bet $3500, 1folds, next player goes ALL IN. I TANK FOR ABOUT 5MINS. THINKING U HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, NOT AGAIN. THEN I FOLD FACE UP. HE TURNS OVER 10 8 OFF. AND TELLS ME THAT FOR $4500 MORE HE WAS GOING TO TAKE HIS CHANCES FOR THE GUT SHOT STRAIGHT. BUT I HANG IN THERE FOR ABOUT AN HR, BEFORE I GET KNOCKED OUT. BUT DAMN, THAT WAS SICK.
WELL I GOTTA RUN, AGAIN THANKS KENNY, I APPRECIATE YOU. YOU ARE ONE OF THE TOP 5 PLAYERS ON THE GULF COAST. KEEP PLAYING THEM TOUGH AND YOU WILL HAVE THAT MAIN EVENT 1ST PLACE CASH.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE......

HELLO FRIENDS AND POKER FAMILY. IT'S BEEN SOME TIME SINCE I HAVE LAST BLOGGED. A LOT HAS HAPPENED IN THAT PERIOD AND I HOPE TO SIT DOWN AND PUT IT IN A LENGTHY BLOG SOON, BUT FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS AN ISSUE ABOUT A VERY GOOD PLAYER THAT'S NOT GETTING THE RECOGNITION THAT HE DESERVES, AND THAT PLAYER IS KENNY MILAM. MANNNNNN, WHERE IS THE LOVE FOR THIS GUY? HE PLAYS IN ALL THE LOCAL TOURNEYS ON THE GULF COAST AND SOME IN VEGAS AND DOES VERY WELL FOR HIMSELF, HE IS A LOCAL, HE HAS PLAYED IN CELEBRITY TOURNAMENTS IN VEGAS, HE HAS MADE FINAL TABLES GALORE AND STILL HE DOES NOT GET THE PROPS THAT HE DESERVES. HE'S NOT EVEN IN THE WHO'S WHO OF POKER PLAYERS ON GCP.NET. (WHICH I WILL TALK TO WILD BILL ABOUT THAT) ALL I'M SAYING IS LETS GIVE HIM A LITTLE MORE PUB TO GET HIS NAME OUT THERE. YOU CAN FIND HIM EVERY WEDNESDAY AT THE HARRAHS NEW ORLEANS WEDNESDAY $130 TOURNAMENT. GET TO KNOW HIM, HE REALLY IS A NICE GUY, AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE, LOOK FOR THE GUY WITH THE HULK HOGAN MUSTACHE, GREY AND ORANGE JACKET, AND OH HIS NAME IS ON HIS SHIRT. WELL GUYS, GOT TO RUN, UNTIL NEXT TIME. I'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FELT.

WHY US?

What's up my friends? Hope the poker world is going well. Quick question to you all and I will get out of your hair. Why is it that every time a player gets sucked out on, get two good starting cards and a bad flop, try to trap another player and lets them catch up, try to bluff and gets caught or any other bad scenario, they always, and I mean always blame the dealer? Would someone, anyone please explain this to me. We as dealers take the most abuse from players that I have ever seen. Our job is to get as many hands out as possible, collect the bets, burn and turn, call the winning hand, and push the pot. We really have no control as to what cards come off the deck. If we did, don't you think that we would invite all our friends to come and play? Or deal jackpots everyday? WOW, I mean come on guys take it easy on the insults and threats. We do have feelings too. If you are superstitious about a dealer, get up when they deal, believe me when I tell you that we won't be offended. Some players just come in with a bad attitude towards the dealers, and that's usually the ones that don't tip. We love our jobs, but we would love them even more without the abuse. Don't ever take it personal when you lose a hand, because it is not. We are there for you, to provide customer service and most of all to feed our families from your tips. Well, with that being said, take care and I'll see you on the other side of the felt....

POKER JUNKIES

Hey my friendly poker people. Where have you been? Harrahs poker room for the most part has been empty in the mornings. The 15-30 Omaha game that is suppose to be the best Omaha game in the country is all but gone on Tuesdays and Fridays. I always tell everyone that the best time to make money in any poker room is in the morning when the overnight drunks and the all night games are going on. That means that people are tired and make mistakes that you can capitalize on and make a great deal of money. So whats the problem? Get in there between 5am and 11am and get some, It's there for the taking, trust me I know, I see this on a daily basis.
Now I have an interesting question for all of you 3-6 limit players, how about steppin it up a notch and asking our friendly staff at Harrahs Casino New Orleans to start a 4-8 or a 3-6-12 limit holdem game? Think of the bigger pots, the bigger action, and the better play from people that normally chase cards that would not. (but think of the bigger pots. WOW) Right now the word is that they don't want to run off the so called 3-6 older crowd. But as I see it, they can adjust just like people did with no limit, am I right? And there are even some no limit players that has stated that they will be willing to play these games until they can get a seat in the no limit game, which means the casino can keep these players in action at all times and possibly keep the room full. Well, let me know what you think. And also my people, PLEASE AND I REALLY MEAN THIS, PLEASE TIP THE DEALERS MORE, I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH ABOUT WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH WITH THIS SO CALLED RECESSION. Instead of a $1 tip, give $2, instead of a $5 tip, give $6. You really don't know how much we appreciate it. And to our Wednesday tournament final table people, please stop walking out on us after you cash out. Anything that you can leave for us is highly appreciated. And to those that tip very well (and you know who you are) THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. On that note, take care and I'll see you on the other side of the felt........

PEACE!!!!!!!!!!

So please don't be offended. I wish everyone the best at the Beau, and I hope to see you at the final table in atleast 3 events. Now for the dealer news of the day. Ladies and Guys, it's come to my attention that someone has spread rumor that you should cut down on your TIPPING, and it is showing. Please ignore this rumor, we as dealers need every tip that we can get. So have an open mind and tip what you think is right and fair for us. If you do have questions about tipping, please refer to my earlier blog on tipping or just leave a comment for me or email me, hell stop me at harrahs and ask me, i'll be more than happy to answer your questions. Well hopefully it won't take as long to blog again, so take care and i'll see you on the other side of the felt.

I HAD A GREAT TIME AND A GOOD RUN AT THE IP CLASSIC

Well, Well, Well, first i would like to thank Wild Bill, Gene, Big Ray, My backers and all the other people that supported me and cheered me on at the IP Classic. I got several chances to play with Bill and Gene and really enjoyed playing with them and learning from them. Those guys showed me alot about character. Bill has more patience than i could ever have in a million years. Gene will put pressure on you until you crack. I love both styles of play. But i did have a good tourney overall. As bill mention i finished with a 2nd place finish on Friday night and made the final table on Saturday. It was not all fine and dandy though. I had the worst of luck when i first arrived on Friday. I played well on Friday, but doubled people up later and went out 28th. Saturday, started with 3000, and never had more than 3800, got knocked out early. I played in a couple of second chance tourneys, no good. I played on Sunday, I played really well but got sucked out on all night long. Knocked out about 38th. Well i decided to go home on Sunday night just to get away for a while or to blow off some steam, when i returned on Monday night, I played in a $110 sit and go and won it.($500). I felt like things were starting to change, and it was. On Tuesday i played in the $230 event, although i did not cash, i went real deep and went card dead, i finished 13th and they paid 9 spots. I played in the mega on Wednesday and finished 6th with only one spot winning a seat. on Thursday i played in the $340 event and about midway thru i got QQ and ran into 1010, we got it all in and he got a 10 on the river to knock me out. So i decided to play another mega satellite, well i won it to get a seat into the main event and really that's all i wanted to do is win a seat to ease the mind of my backers. Friday came along a $340 event, the key word for the day was patience, patience, patience. Well i arrived late which is not all bad, i arrive in the big blind, looked at my cards, 5 3 off suit, 2 callers, i check my option, and the flop comes J 4 2, small blind checks, i check and the other player checks, turn card is a 6 all rainbow. small blind bets 300 i raise to 675 player 3 mucks. small blind looks at me and ask if i hit my set. i ask him if he has 2 pair and if so how high, he looks at me and says i have 2 pair so i will just go all in, i smile and say i call. then he says do you have the 5 3, i said of course I'm in the big blind, double up on the first hand and knocked out my first of many players in that event.(wish it was a bounty tourney) i make it to the final table and played big pairs mostly AA, got heads up and tried to bully the other player, it worked for awhile, word to the wise, always have RESPECT for your opponent. then he adjusted his game and we swapped stacks for about 2hrs. then i went card dead and he picked me apart, because when i got 9 6, he would pick up A 10 and so on. Congrats sir, game well played. Well it was on to the main event. of course the first person i see at my table is the guy that beat me the night before, but this time i was ready for him, i knew his style of play and used it to my advantage. I also drew monkeys table and he was to my right, and talked to me the entire time. i was begging to get moved and finally the poker gods answered, i move to another table, it was somewhat better. a guy named Nikki was just as bad, but Nikki was very loose, and he would show after every hand he played, which was good information for me. i got involved in a pot and lost half my stack, so i was short stacked all day. the most i had at any given time was 10900, we started with 5000. well after being card dead for most of the day, i just hung around and hung around picking up a small pot here and there to make up for the blinds i was posting. and i also was noticing the people that had big stacks at the other tables were getting knocked out. then i noticed that there were alot of short stacks or stacks that were about average. that's when i figure if i hung around enough that i might have a shot to pull this thing out. well we finally got down to 10 players and i had the shortest stack at the table. about 12 hands in one player goes all in, i pick up 10 J spade. without hesitation, i muck. the big blind calls. he has AA the player that went All in had A 10. AA holds up and i make the final table on Sunday. when we resumed on Sunday i had 3300 not 33000 but 3300, the blinds were 600 1200 with a 100 ante. there were 4 other short stacks, 10300, 17500, 23200, 24000, everyone else had between 57000 and 71000. i had plenty of chances to finish higher on the food chain, but the other short stacks all doubled up against the big stack on the river each time. so i get down to 1400 in chips and decide to play any face card. well i get K 3 under the gun i go all in. i get 3 callers and i just knew i was dead. the flop comes 9 Q K, check around, turn card is a 6, check around. river is a 3. check around and i pick up the pot. well after going card dead and being raised by Cub every time on my blinds, I'm down to about 4200 again. I'm on the button and pick up AA, Cub raises to 3700 as always, i go all in he calls he shows J9 off. the flop comes 8 j 3. I could not believe it, i reach to shake his hand, here come a 2 on the turn, then come the magic card on the river, it's a 3 and i make Aces and threes to double up. then what do ya know another short stack doubles up thru Cub, and i go card dead again with no opportunity to even think about stealing a pot. so I'm down to about 5000 in chips and i am 2 from the big blind, i get KQ of spades, i go all in, the one seat says I'm all in, at that point i knew that he had JJ's or better. Cub folds and we turn them up. he has QQ the flop comes 2 A 10, turns a 9 and the river was a 4 and my hopes of a remarkable come from behind win was gone. i played solid, took home a little cash and look forward to the next big event. so if any of you guys want to back DaRock, just let me know. well guys it's been fun, until next time.......

KNOWLEDGE FROM DAROCK :Knowing when to raise with the nutts.

Guys we all have our own idea on how to play the nutts. But sometime we get so caught up in having them that we get away from the real way to play or raise the nutts. My point of view on this situation is if you have a fool or fish as we say in the poker world, who is trying to buy or push his weight around, let him do so. If he is trying to buy the pot, don't force him out. For example, if I would check the nutts to the big bully, if he has, lets say $800 in front of him, let him push in probably a sizable bet, lets say a $200 bet. Myself, I would let him think that I am thinking about raising, instead of pushing all in at the drop of a hat, I would take about a minute or so to ponder how much I can extract from this sitting duck. If I go all in, he is certain to fold. If I want to get him to think that I am trying to bluff at the pot, how much should I raise? Well after careful consideration, I decide to double the bet, raise $200, without hesitation, he says all in. At this point I just smile and say "CHECK MATE" or as we say in the poker world, I CALL. Now thats what I call the HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER. What I am trying to say is, let your nutts do the talking, don't go crazy with your betting just to be satisfied with what's in the pot. Extract as much as you can from your opponent especially if your opponent is a little fish in a big pond. Take it from DAROCK, I see these types of situations everyday. Peace and Love.......

Just a little advice from DAROCK OF ACES!!!!!!

DaRock Presents "The Dealers Box"

Hello my friends. First I would like to thank my compadres for that wonderful introduction. Now down to business. Let's get right down to it on my blog called "The Dealers box" a dealers perspective. First things first, Tipping the dealer. I know that tipping is a courtesy, but let me just shed some light on the subject. Dealers work very hard at what they do. You might get some dealers that might not be as good as others. So you should tip accordingly. But, don't make the good dealers suffer for the bad ones. Don't be afraid to throw that good dealer a red bird or two. Hell, on a huge pot ($1000 or more, hell, why not a Greenie $25) I mean it's not like you are going to miss it from your stack. Play for the moment, not like one pro player(Mike Cairo) once said " If you play poker for a living, by tipping the dealer you will lose money in the long run." I think that is a bunch of Bull. He has never worked for tips, if he had, he would understand how important it is for us as tipped employees. What he does not understand is that most of us make about $4.25 an hour without our tips, so as you can see we rely on tips from you guys for our main source of income. So with that being said, look out for us little people, and tell all of your friends to be a little more generous to their dealers next time they are pushed that monster pot. Also if you see someone that is not tipping, don't be afraid to say "Hey buddy, don't forgot about the dealer!!!!!!" Believe me, we appreciate it. Thanks Guys.

Remember: AA, play them hard or they may hardly play!!!
Peace!!!
